This cake was called ‘The Glitterball’ and I ate it in The Swallow Bakery in Chichester, England. My boyfriend and I went in on Valentines day for a romantic afternoon tea.
It looks yummy, doesn’t it? It wasn’t.
The icing was about an inch thick and sickly sweet. The sponge itself looked over-processed; I suspect there was a lot of raising agent involved to make as little mix as possible fill the case.
In an attempt at romance, I fed my other half a mouthful with the fork. He complained of sickness for the next hour.

I can still appreciate its beauty, nevertheless.
